When a faster patent registration is required even after a request for expedited examination has been filed?

As the number of cases applying for expedited examination has increased significantly, too much of a burden on examiners have also increased. In the past, examination results could be received within six months of the filing of expedited examination request at the latest, but recently, even if the expedited examination system is used, the time to receive examination results is gradually being delayed. For this reason, the preliminary examination system was implemented as an adjunct to the expedited examination procedure.

The preliminary examination system can bring the applicants a faster result of qualification for their rights, and allow the examiners to examine the patent application after hearing a detailed explanation of the invention.

Please see the column by Patent Attorney, Mr. YongOh Yoo, about the request for preliminary examination that can take advantage of faster patent registration even if the expedited examination request has been filed.
